Hurricane….
What’s Hurricane Season look like in Southeast Louisiana?
Anyone who lives on the Gulf Coast knows that Hurricane Season is a time to stay weather aware. Our region has experienced the devastation caused by hurricanes time and time again. From extreme flooding and weeks without power to relocating and rebuilding our homes, we are well versed with the Hurricane Season. Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ida have proven to be emotionally and financially costly in our State, impacting the way that we live.
Unfortunately, we will more than likely have to deal with and be prepared for more major storms in the years to come. In 2025, from June 1st – November 30th, NOAA is predicting a 30% chance of a near-normal season, a 60% chance of an above-normal season, and a 10% chance of a below-normal season in the Atlantic. Whether we make it through the list of named storms this year or if we find ourselves in the cone of a Category 5 at some point, practicing the lessons we’ve learned in the past will surely strengthen our resiliency.
Although we cannot predict precisely a storm’s path or intensity yet, there are many different steps we can take to make sure that we are in the best possible position if and when they do come.
Obviously, having an evacuation plan and all important documentation is a must. Keeping ourselves and our loved ones safe is paramount, possessions can be replaced. We can now move on to our assets, our home and their contents, our valuables and our vehicles. Insurance companies recommend having photo documentation of the contents within our homes. These include jewelry, furniture, devices etc. Having these items photographed ahead of a major hurricane will make it much easier if a claim of loss needs to be filed. The same goes for your home and its roof.
Having a roof inspection prior to a damaging storm will prove to your insurance company that your home was damaged because of the storm and not prior to it. That being said, your roof is the outermost layer of protection for your home. If your roof has been recently replaced or is a Fortified Roof, damage from a severe storm to your home would be greatly reduced. On the other hand, if your roof is older or has existing damage, filing an insurance claim will be much more difficult and costly if caused by a hurricane. You can reach out to H2H Roofing if you have any questions regarding these “named storm deductibles” or an up-to-date roof inspection.
Maybe you’re aware that you need a new roof and are waiting for the next storm to come through to address it, we would strongly urge against that! On top of the increased deductibles and greater potential of loss, if a major storm hits us, there will be many “out of town-fly-by-night roofers” offering to give you a great deal. These folks will not be able to offer you quality materials, warranties or any other recourse should something go wrong. H2H Roofing is a local, licensed, and insured company who partners with other top names in the industry like Owens Corning, to offer our customers and communities the very best in roofing solutions to ensure that their homes are as protected as possible.
What happens after a hurricane?
After the storm has passed, if you return to your home and find that it’s been damaged, there are certain steps that you need to take. Do not put yourself in harm’s way! You should call a roofer contractor immediately. At H2H Roofing, we are well versed with not only taking temporary preventative steps to protect your home, but we will also work with your insurance company on your behalf to get your roof repaired or replaced as soon as possible. We will perform an inspection of your property and roof, gathering the digital documentation necessary to help walk you through the claims process. This will include assessing your shingles and flashings, gutters and fascia, fence lines and patios along with any other personal property.
The photos below are a before and after of a homeowner’s roof that experienced damage. They reached out to us after a storm came through and a tree fell on their roof. H2H worked with the insurance company and was able to provide not only a full roof replacement featuring our Owens Corning extended coverage warranty but also replaced damaged fascia for function and aesthetic appeal. Additionally, we replaced the entire front elevation of gutters, complete with matching downspouts and gutter guards. We were happy to help them with their roof replacement, and they were thrilled to get a new roof!
