You’re Replacing Your Roof…Let’s Talk Upgrades!

There is a lot to think about as you get ready to take on a big project like replacing your roof. Maybe a storm has rolled through and caused damage, perhaps a neighbor’s tree fell – and it wasn’t polite enough to land solely on their property. It’s also possible your roof has outlived its useful life, or you’ve had some design ideas on your mind you’re ready to bring to life. No matter the reason you’re replacing your roof, there can be stress, excitement, and a lot to manage – so, first things first…

Contact a local, licensed, insured, and experienced roofer like H2H Roofing to help you through your journey. At H2H Roofing, we start with a thorough inspection of your current roof and then work with you to create a plan together that takes into account your specific project needs including budget, protection, and design elements. H2H Roofing looks at your roof replacement as an investment in your future, and one part of that discussion of upgrades.

We like to think of upgrades as options that can help you as a homeowner get more life out of your roof. With recent improvements in materials, you can certainly replace your roof with the same materials you had before, just newer! Unless you have a 3-tab shingled roof (read more about why H2H Roofing offers a free upgrade from 3-tab to an entry level architectural shingle here [insert blog]). However, often an upgrade to your roof cover system now will mean less in repair or replacement costs down the road.

And, as we know, a Southeastern Louisiana roof doesn’t always last 15 to 20 years as it might in other states that don’t experience the kind of storm systems we do – as a coastal state. Our roofs last more like 10-15 years, and if we have a couple bad hurricanes within that timeframe, maybe less. So, let’s talk about some of the upgrade options available when planning for your roof replacement.

Design

There are countless ways to achieve the look you want for your home, and a roof is a big one. The Southeast’s lush landscape offers one of the best playgrounds, and there’s also no better time than when you’ve got a blank canvas!

Shingles: If you’re looking at a shingled roofing system, you might want to think about a luxury shingle. As an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, H2H Roofing can provide you with options that open up the world to unique shingle designs, colors, and durability.

Metal: In addition to wonderful durability, especially against high winds, Metal Roofing shouts quite confidence. With clean lines and bold colors, metal roofs are gaining popularity quicker than ever.

Slate: There are few things that scream elegance quite like slate, enter, Slate Roofing. Their slick surface, combined with their sheer weight and durability, makes them very resistant to damage from high winds. Slate is also non-combustible, making them fire-resistant; great when lightning is dancing.

Clay: Clay Tile Roofing offers a specific & unique look, and can definitely help in that wow factor. Similar to slate roofing, Clay Tile roofing is heavy & non-combustible, making them resistant to storm damage, especially with lightning.

Synthetic: Synthetic materials can offer unique design options which mimic natural material, such as Wood Shake, Slate Tile, and Clay Tile. They can also be eco-friendly with recycled materials and offer robust protections.

Protection

Upgraded Shingles: Not all shingles are created alike, and one major difference when it comes to protection is how a shingle is rated against wind & impact. The most common wind ratings for shingles on the market are F for up to 110mph, G for up to 120mph, & H for up to 150mph. For impact ratings, you typically find Class 3 for testing of a ball bearing up to 1.75in, and Class 4 for testing of a ball bearing up to 2in. Class G & Class 3 shingles can definitely get the job done, but when you’re looking to the top line in protection, a Class H & Class 4 shingle, such as an Owens Corning Duration Storm or Flex.

Metal, Slate, Clay, Synthetic: In addition to design elements, these natural material roofing materials offer some of the highest level of protections available, with wind ratings often exceeding 150mph, and achieving Class 4 impact ratings*. In addition to the high protection levels, with proper maintenance, these material types also have the ability to achieve useful lifespans well in excess of 50 years.

*Slate Tiles achieve excellent wind ratings, however, can be more fragile, and often have lower impact ratings. That said, depending on material thickness, they can achieve Class 3 & 4 Impact Ratings

Fortified Roofing: Fortified Roofs combine material technology and advanced installation methods to bring homeowners in Louisiana the highest level of protection. Just as we’re seeing in neighboring states, Fortified Roofs experience less damage and considerably extended useful lifespans.

Extended Warranty: When it comes to a shingle roofing system, an extended warranty can be one of the best upgrade investments you can make. As an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, we are able to offer the Preferred Protection Extended Warranty which can increase your coverage up to 50yrs on materials, and 10yrs on workmanship. It also offers a 1-Time transfer on your coverage!

Budget

As we mentioned above, one of the great things about working with H2H Roofing is even if you are working with a strict budget, there are some great benefits you get right from the start.

  • We’ll never sell you a 3-tab system!
  • If you currently have a 3-tab system, we’ll automatically upgrade you to an entry level architectural shingle.
  • Financing is available to help manage the cost of your replacement.
  • As an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, we can offer an Extended Warranty.  Investing now can save thousands later.
  • Upgrading to a higher impact rated shingle, alternative material, and/or Fortified roof could result in reduced insurance premiums
